Well another year is quickly approaching an end, and the Bond University Film and Television Awards (BUFTA) were held last week. VIDEOPRO has been involved in sponsoring these awards for many years, with myself being actively involved for the last 8 years.
Over that time I have watched this event grow into a major production. It has truly become an event that you need to enter and be involved with. BUFTA is a short film competition for aspiring filmmakers from Year 11 and 12 secondary schools across Australia. This competition originally started in 1996 and offers a grand prize of a full fee paid scholarship to study Film and Television at Bond University.
There are no themes to adhere to, no objects you must use, no-one else’s message to relay, simply let your imagination and ambition be your guide. Students can enter a film made as a part of a school assessment or as an independent project, into one of the following categories:
Once the films are in and have filtered down to the top 30 or so, it’s time for the various judges to be called in and the discussions start to find the winners, with the final culmination being the awards night held in November each year.
