Recently I came across a review by Andy Portch, who is a senior cameraman for Sky News based in Beijing. The review is a great case study on using the Panasonic AG-AF101 video camera (AG-AF102EN in Australia) and the Panasonic GH2 stills camera, it is very well written and from the point of view of an experienced cameraman. The author has a great ‘real-world’ approach to the equipment he chooses to use. He’s aware of the equipment’s strengths and limitations and makes his choice on overall performance and what works best, in the given situation. He also talks about his set-ups, and how he got his shots as well as the accessories he uses.
Andy moved to Panasonic after shooting with Canon 5D MKII cameras and has achieved some incredible results. Another point that stands out is that he isn’t caught up in all the “big sensor” hype, as he shows what can be done with a small and cost effective camera. You can judge his review “Size Matters: Sky News Beijing Bureau Cameraman Andy Portch reports on a Year with the Panasonic AF101 and GH2 Cameras” and videos by clicking here.
