On 28th February we held the launch of the Sony PMWF3 cinematography camera. Representatives from Sony Australia and the Australian Cinematographers Society (ACS) joined in the VBC showroom along with 80 people from all facets of the Broadcast & Production industry.

Everyone was excited about the shallow depth of field that the super 35mm sensor & Sony prime lenses offered, and it didn’t disappoint. To see what the camera is capable of, check out the Sony PMWF3 microsite – they have some of the footage available to view online. It’s amazing.

CineDeck Extreme were also there and showcased the different recording formats from DNxHD, ProRes, Cineform & Uncompressed 4:4:4. Which would allow for greater flexibility depending on the job and where the footage was to be posted.
Pieter de Vries (ACS) said a few words at the end of the presentation outlining his experiences with the camera and what he liked most about it. He’s also written a great review of the camera on his website: www.pieterdevries.com.au. This was definitely a great part of the proceedings as it provided an impartial viewpoint from a cinematographer.

All in all, it was a great event and really good to see everyone come in to see the new release.
