When you hear ‘multi-room audio’, generally you hear ‘SONOS’ as well. SONOS have dominated the audio streaming market for a number of years and while it’s taken other manufacturers a little while to jump on board, there are now a number of other options available – look out SONOS!

To me, the brand new Denon HEOS speakers are by far the closest alternative in terms of line-up, sound quality and functionality. Right now there are three speakers, a wifi extender, an amp and a pre-amp. There are also whispers of other components like a sound bar, subwoofer and wireless speaker in pipeline for release in the next 6-12 months.

HEOS by Denon
The HEOS 3 is the baby speaker, similar to a PLAY:1 or PLAY:3 – awesome in a stereo pair. The HEOS 5 is comparable to the PLAY:5 and sounds great, and then there’s the seriously powerful HEOS 7 – in a league all of its own. In my eyes, the HEOS Link and Amp give you a bit more flexibility than their SONOS counterparts. While there are fewer streaming services built-in with HEOS at the moment, more will be added in the near future.

Bose, Samsung and a few others have a small piece of the multi-room audio pie, but for me Denon is looking like a winner. I love the design and they sound amazing – head into store to do your own comparison.
