On Thursday (27/6) of last week, Avid announced the availability of Media Composer 7 which I have to say is a cracker! The new version continues Avid’s unwavering commitment to media professionals, with accelerated and simplified file-based workflows — including optimized HD delivery from high-res source material and automated media operations. It also offers Interplay Sphere for Mac support, extending real-time production everywhere.
Some of the great new features include FrameFlex, Dynamic Media Folders, and AMA media (now part of the media tool function). I had a play with the FrameFlex option over the weekend and it’s brought a whole new level of flexibility to the way I handle and edit larger than HD & SD files. For example I had a number of still images with a frame size of 4000 x 2000, however, I wanted to use only part of the image. In the past I would have used Pan and Zoom plug-in which works fine, however, using FrameFlex I had more flexibility. All I can say is try it, you’ll love it!
